Germany is a popular choice for students looking to study Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy with its high-quality education system and world-renowned universities. Candidates looking to study in these departments must meet certain admission criteria and exam procedures. Here are the important steps and criteria to consider during this process:

1. University Examination (YKS)

Students from Turkey who wish to study medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy in Germany must first take the University Entrance Examination (YKS) in Turkey. The YKS is an important criterion for applicants applying for higher education in Germany. In particular, you must succeed in the YKS and achieve a high score. Universities in Germany also consider the results of the university placement process in Turkey when evaluating their students’ YKS results.

2. Language certificate

In Germany, medical, dental, and pharmacy studies are generally taught in German. Therefore, knowledge of the German language is required. Students must have certain language certificates to demonstrate their German proficiency. The most common language certificates are:

– TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language)

– DSH (German Language Examination for University Entrance)

– Goethe Certificate C1 or C2

IMPORTANT: Proof of a valid language test is mandatory for university applications. Furthermore, many universities prefer applicants with a C2 certificate.

3. TestAS exam

The TestAS (Test for Foreign Students) is an examination designed to measure the academic abilities of international students who wish to study at a university in Germany. This examination assesses candidates’ analytical and academic skills. The TestAS is particularly important for applicants to demanding disciplines such as medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. The TestAS examination consists of two parts:

– Basic Performance Test (KERNTEST): This is a general ability test that all candidates take.

– Department-Specific Test: Contains specific questions related to the department to which the candidate is applying.

Successfully passing the TestAS examination provides an advantage in many university applications.

4. Application process

In Germany, applications for university studies are usually submitted via the university’s website or via Uni-Assist, a central application system. The most important steps to follow during the application process are as follows:

– Collect the necessary documents (certificate, diploma, language certificate, YKS results document, TestAS results document)

– Complete the application form

– Pay the application fee (if applicable)

– Submit the application documents in an expanded format or upload them to the online system.

5. Admission and visa procedures

Once your application has been accepted, you must apply for a student visa for Germany at the German consulate. The documents required for the visa application include a letter of admission, documentation of your financial situation, and your health insurance. Once the visa process is complete, you can enter Germany and begin your studies.

TIME EDUCATION COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Studying medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy in Germany is a demanding but rewarding process. This goal can be achieved through thorough preparation for the YKS, language certificate, and TestAS exams, as well as diligent and consistent work throughout the application process. Given the opportunities and career prospects offered by studying in Germany, the effort involved in this process will definitely be worth it.

Of course, every success depends on personal achievement and patience. However, it should be remembered that the most important criterion for the medical training you wish to pursue in Germany is your HZB average grade, which is calculated based on your ÖSYM placement grade. Unfortunately, there are very few universities where you can apply and be admitted with just the TestAS and your language certificate, without your HZB grade criteria being taken into account. Starting in 2024, all universities except the University of Cologne will evaluate your HZB average grade and other criteria and grant admission accordingly.

With which YKS result can I study medicine in Germany?

Yes, the YKS score is very important. To study medicine at one of Germany’s 37 public universities, different criteria may apply at each university. We observed that students who achieved a high YKS score in Turkey also met other criteria (TestAS, language certificate) at least sufficiently for admission. We have created a table for you with the admission criteria of all universities and the base grades of the students they have accepted in past periods.

Of course, the above chart is only intended to provide some insight. With the student’s effort and patience, it is possible to be accepted into medical school even with a low YKS score. In this chart, which demonstrates that candidates with high YKS scores always receive priority, we share the difficulties you’ll face in advance, as well as our chart, which shows how close you are to success in achieving this goal, assuming you follow a standard process regarding other criteria (such as language, TestAS).
